GRUMA
has favored among its most significant values, its faith in research
andtechnology, as a driving force of industry and progress. Thus, the company
dedicates a good part of its initiatives to constantly improve all corn related
traits: nutritional content, physical properties, yield, pest resistance, and
storage, among others
As a result of the emphasis on technological development for almost six
decades, GRUMA has the most advanced technology to build plants to produce corn
flour and nixtamalized tortillas.
As technology advances, GRUMA has been considerably modified in the last five
years. It now has a system, able to take advantage of any type of grain. This
advancement has a domino effect: it allows for the discovery of viable
solutions, to resolve the problems that could arise in the different markets
the company serves.
This
technology permits GRUMA to produce different types of flour suitable for every
use. In the last years we developed whiter flours with better yield, which
makes them superior in quality, compared to the competition.
Additionally GRUMA has developed equipment to make tortillas, which produce
substantially higher volumes and cost savings compared to traditional machines.
GRUMA's tortilla machines produce up to 1,200 corn tortillas or 400 wheat
tortillas per minute, whereas traditional machines in Mexico produce only 30 to
50 tortillas per minute.
Also, GRUMA, is convinced that, to grow, we had to devote resources to
research, and this is aimed at finding new products that achieve higher added
value, in order to meet the needs and tastes of its consumers in different
markets and regions, and to reduce manufacturing costs of their products,
develop processes to increase their performance and refine their ecological
systems to comply strictly with environmental regulations that each one of the
countries where it operates.
The continuing trials and tests that are performed within all plants serve to
offer the best attributes in the products produced.
